Sarah Ollerenshaw is an emerging artist with a background in fine art restoration. After studying Spanish and History of Art at Birmingham University she took a postgraduate diploma at Christie's which led on to an apprenticeship in restoration and conservation. Throughout her studies she has always painted.
FIGURATIVE
Sarah's figurative paintings are contemporary and yet they communicate a sense of age together with a timeless impression of sacrifice, hope and fundamentally of love. They reflect on the tension created between loving God whilst living in and being of the world. They are emotive pieces which challenge and provoke new explorations of what it is to relate. Her influences include Spanish art from the Golden Age, mediaeval art and icons and religious imagery of early altarpieces.
LANDSCAPES
Sarah's landscapes and seascapes are drawn from her experiences whilst out walking. Working loosely from photographs her paintings are executed with an intensity and vigour with painterly bold marks, scratches and washes. They are simple yet dramatic and have a poetic quality; a balanced rhythm of colour and form triggering the memory to recall and revisit places of beauty.
PRINTS
Sarah's uses a printing technique called monoprinting. They are oil on paper and then gilded with either gold or white gold. They capture the beauty of her chosen subject with simple, expressive lines.
